Dinajpur district has a population of 2,990,128 and has witnessed a poverty rate decrease to 24.3% from 31.5%. However, certain areas, including Dinajpur, have experienced an increase in poverty. The predominant occupation is farming and day laboring, but these provide limited profits, causing financial difficulties for families, particularly those relying on a sole male earning member. The situation is compounded for families with children with special needs, where financial challenges are even greater. There is only one special school in Dinajpur Sadar, but its facilities and resources are insufficient to provide quality education to children with special needs. Due to inadequate therapeutic care, many children with disabilities are forced to drop out of school. Additionally, existing support mechanisms fail to address the complex educational and therapeutic needs of current student with disabilities.Project “SHOHAY” is a transformative initiative addressing the educational and therapeutic needs of student with disabilities in Dinajpur district, located in the Rangpur Division of northern Bangladesh. “SHOHAY” is dedicated to providing integrated educational requirements and need-based therapeutic interventions to empower student with disabilities, fostering their holistic development and enhancing their quality of life through the strategy of inclusive education, therapeutic interventions, community-based rehabilitation, cooperative programs, and sensory integration.
